Even if you’ve never hunted in Idaho, the name Selway likely rings a bell. It’s one of the headwaters of the main Clearwater River, and thus the setting for many an elk hunter’s article or story. It’s a beautiful body of water and the inspiration for our one-of-a-kind Selway Elk Reed.
Crafted from .004” natural latex, the Selway Elk Reed has more stretch than other calls in the Clearwater series and thus produces a high, clear sound. It sits back in its frame a bit, in a more traditional style; and like its cousin, the Lochsa Elk Reed, it’s LOUD. Looking for a leg up on those large country elk? Look no further than the Selway Elk Reed from Slayer.
You may be wondering about the Selway’s natural latex reed. Interestingly, color has more of an impact on latex than simple aesthetics. Some color, depending on how it’s made, either thins out the latex or thickens it, which impacts how the latex resonates. For the Selway, we opted to use a natural latex, giving the diaphragm more flexibility to reach those higher pitches and bigger sound.
